Embryo to Newborn, in Plasticine

26 November 2020

Here at OHS, we love to do things a little bit differently, and are always experimenting with new ways to keep our students engaged and enjoying their lessons.

In recent weeks, our Year 7s have been studying human reproduction, from embryo to foetus to newborn… but with a classic OHS twist! Rather than poring over diagrams, our pupils got hands on with plasticine in a novel method designed to reinforce the key vocabulary associated with the female reproductive system. The colourful putty was used to illustrate the oviduct (orange), uterus wall (brown), umbilical cord (green), amniotic sac and fluid (blue) and the placenta (red). The students also modelled each stage of reproduction, including the one in which the foetus starts sucking its thumb.

Superb detail and superb fun!
