As a Sixth Former at Oxford High School, your daughter will be joining a very special group: a group that will support her for the rest of her life. The GDST Alumnae Mentoring Programme is an extraordinary and innovative means of leveraging the GDST’s 70,000-strong alumnae network by pairing each Oxford High Sixth Form student with a GDST young alumna. The mentors will be selected from alumnae who are currently studying at Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities. They will be fully trained, fully reference–checked, and fully signed up to the GDST Mentoring Charter. These dedicated mentors will then be on-hand throughout your daughter’s time in the Sixth Form to give her advice about A Level study, university choices and life beyond school.
The aim of alumnae mentoring is to fulfil the promise made by the GDST and OHS of finding innovative and impactful ways of supporting your daughter during her Sixth Form years.
We want to give your daughter someone informed and relevant to talk to about all the decisions she currently faces, and which can seem so daunting: someone who can share insights into the challenges that your daughter is facing, who can support her through her university choices and applications, and answer any questions she has around the transition from school to life beyond.
In short, a mentor will provide your daughter with a greater understanding of herself and her future. And who knows, with the benefit of this personal investment and the confidence it brings, maybe your daughter will become one of our next generation of mentors, and give another Sixth Former a head start on the rest of her life.
