At Oxford High School we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone – students and staff – can be confident to be themselves. We are a supportive community that cares for each other and celebrates difference and we constantly strive to be more inclusive. We always want to do better.
We are a school where social discourse is actively encouraged. Indeed, our GDST Undivided school council reps coined the phrase ‘continuing the conversation’ which has become our Diversity and Inclusion motto. We want every member of our community to champion inclusion and have the agency and tools to advocate for change.
Within school, there are a number of student and staff groups working on different aspects of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We have two staff and governor groups: one at the Prep and one at the Senior School who are leading change by responding to surveys, raising awareness and curriculum design. The Senior School team have created pledges and actions. Alongside, the Prefect team, Racial Diversity Support and Action group and LBGTQ+ club have held a Diversity conference; invited inspiring speakers to share their stories; organised celebration events, fundraisers and assemblies; asked for changes to the school uniform policy and contributed their voices to school policy. We also create a cultural and religious festivals and commemorative events calendar each term.
We are committed to the GDST’s Undivided Charter for Action and benefit from the expertise and training that the GDST provide for our staff and student leaders. We are always happy to talk to parents and prospective parents about working together to create a community where everyone feels they are valued and belong. So, if you have any feedback or a question, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
