Girls on the Ball at OHS!

1 March 2017

Despite being a very wet and rainy day, OHS welcomed over 110 young footballers to Oxford High recently for a Girls on the Ball rally. Girls from Years 3 to 4 from over 10 different primary and prep schools came along with their teachers and parents and played a whole afternoon of football matches against each other. Schools included East Oxford Primary School, St Mary and St John, St Nicks, Phil & Jim, St Michaels, St Andrews, Chesterton Church of England, the Dragon and Chandlings. The tournament was led by our Year 9 and Sixth Form sporting leaders, many of whom now volunteer as coaches at local football clubs and are working towards their refereeing qualification. These (now regular) Girls on the Ball events are led by Oxford High School with sponsorship from Reed Education, HSBC, and with ongoing support from Oxford United WFC – who were there to take part on the day and present a signed shirt, the Oxfordshire FA and Summertown Stars. Our next tournament involves 15 schools and 150 girls from Years 5 and 6. Click here for the Year 3-4 event on TV or in the newspaper.
