Our World, Our Futures Exhibition

20 September 2023

Last week students at the Prep School were invited to the Our World, Our Futures art exhibition, at Oxford Brookes University, to see contributions from Year 5 and Year 6 students. They also had the opportunity to see the work of children from other primary schools in Oxfordshire and the Maldives.

This new study connected researchers, primary school teachers and children from two countries – the UK and the Maldives – to develop an exciting cross-curricular Environmental Education and Global Citizenship project. Through sharing art, literacy and digital media, children taught each other about the spaces in which they live, learning to understand one another’s perspectives and how to take action for a better future as global citizens. UNESCO advocates for approaches which place pupils at the centre of the learning experience, enhance intellectual, social, emotional and behavioural dimensions of learning, and empower individuals to take actions for a more sustainable future. This study sought to contribute evidence on how a project based on these principles would work in practice in primary schools in two countries. Families are welcome to pop along and have a look; it’s worth a visit. Mrs Williams, Head of OHPS
