Autumn Term PE & Sport Roundup

12 December 2022

The first term has been jam-packed when it comes to PE and sport. The curriculum lessons have been bustling with excitement and enthusiasm as students enjoyed taking part in physical activity with friends. Our broad and balanced curriculum has enabled students to find activities that they enjoy, whilst being able to develop new skills – including life skills.

Co-curricular clubs, fixtures and competitions

Our co-curricular clubs have been hugely successful, students are always keen to represent the school in fixtures and competitions. Our netball, hockey, football and badminton teams have had lots of fixtures with some wins, draws and losses. And many of our teams enjoying successful cup runs too.

This term, our U16 netball team achieved great success. They qualified for the Regional Finals in January.

Our hockey teams have had a fantastic year, so far! With the U14’s reaching the Regional Finals, the U15’s winning the County Tournament and finishing 3rd at the GDST Rally and the U16’s reaching the Regional Finals both at indoor hockey and outdoor hockey. What an incredible achievement!

Our swimming team competed in a series of galas, and are looking forward to the GDST Swimming Rally in January.

A special mention must go to our cross country team who reached the pinnacle of success, when they qualified for the National Finals. This took place a couple of weeks ago in Leeds, and they all ran exceptionally well.

GDST Hockey, Netball and Football Select Team trials also took place, with our students performing extremely well. Tehya (Year 12), Erin (Year 12), Emma (Year 11) and Imogen  (Year 11) were successful in gaining a place in the GDST Select Hockey team. We await the selection news on the football.

Looking Ahead

We are looking forward to the Spring term where netball has its regional finals, the football and netball cup runs continue, and the big GDST Rallies take place. All other sports continue, with students enjoying being part of a team, in whichever manner they choose – recreationally or competitively.

We are incredibly excited to be staging Oxford High’s first ever Dance Show on Friday 10th March, as we continue to grow dance here.

Another exciting date for your diary is the return of the Sports Dinner on Tuesday 21st March.

Thank you for your commitment this term

Lots to look forward to! A big thank you to all our students who have committed to the PE department so far this year – you are wonderful.
