What is Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is a group dedicated to helping people restore human rights. It is a non-governmental organisation which means that they do everything without the support of the government. They mainly rely on donations, youth groups and campaigns. Amnesty has many school youth groups around the globe that raise money from fundraisers like bake sales.

Amnesty International also gives refugees food and shelter all around the world and helps out with things like the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. They help with political jobs too! They spread awareness and try to educate people on human rights so they can’t be cheated out of their basic requirements.

What do people do to help Amnesty?

You can sign petitions on the Amnesty website. Helping Amnesty financially is useful for the charity itself. It gives Amnesty more funds to purchase resources. Of course, you can always do other things. Every little counts; even if you just speak out when something unfair, it makes the world a better place. You can also sign petitions on the Amnesty website, if you want something to happen. This doesn’t cost anything, except for two minutes of your time. You can also volunteer to help out at local food banks or stations. This wouldn’t help Amnesty directly, but it is still helping people in the local community and that is one of Amnesty’s main goals.

The Club

There is an OHS club called the Amnesty International Society. We do some very exciting things and cover interesting topics. We write letters to the government and organise fundraisers. For example, we have organised a bake sale at break time on Tuesday 18th April 2023. Prices will be decided depending on the size and quality of the item. Please come! Also, if you come to Amnesty International Society for three weeks in a row, you get a house point. There is always chocolate and sweets available and we have quizzes. Also, your feedback is taken into account and improvements are made according to them.
