New School Charities

13 May 2021

As a school, OHS pledges to support two charities: a local charity and a national or international charity. After a tough voting session last week, we are pleased to announce that the new school charities are Helen & Douglas House and charity: water.

In last week’s assembly, our Charity Prefects – Alina (S5) and Alice (S1) – presented a shortlist of some remarkable organisations which we believe best reflect the OHS values. Several key themes were taken into account as areas that the school wants to support: sustainability, mental health, and human rights. Though it was not an easy task choosing only two, we very much look forward to fundraising and supporting these incredible charities.

Helen & Douglas House is a local hospice that provides round-the-clock care for terminally-ill babies, children, and young people. This period in their lives can be a really difficult time for families and Helen & Douglas aims to create an atmosphere of peace and respite through exceptional hospice care. This local charity is especially important as Helen’s sister was an OHS alumna.

charity: water is an international charity that funds community-based projects in regions where clean, safe water is not available. Having worked with 29 countries, charity: water helps to create a long-term supply of water using systems that are sustainable and easily accessible to the local community.
