Year 7 Talent Show
Written by Annie, Year 13
On Tuesday 6th of December, it was the annual Year 7 Talent Show. The event returned in full force for the first time since lockdown and the talent was better than ever. After a round of auditions, five acts got through to the final to perform in front of the school.
There was a panel of five amazing judges, who were Mr Colyer, Mr Pelling, Katherine, Kitty and Naomi (Year 13). They all had the difficult task of deciding the winner, which would be combined with the audience’s votes.
Talent Show finalists
The first act was Mia and Ella, who played piano and sang Dancing Queen by ABBA. The judges described their performance as majestic, and were particularly impressed by how well rehearsed the duo was.
Following Mia and Ella, Rose performed a technically and physically demanding Irish Dancing routine. This impressed the judges with its precise footwork and command of the whole stage.
The third act was a quintet of musicians – Beatrice, Ailsa, Sheena, Sophia, and Emily, who performed the ‘Mission Impossible’ theme tune. The balance of instruments was particularly admirable, and the audience enjoyed hearing a familiar, yet tricky tune played live.
Next was Cathy, who played the bass guitar with cool confidence, performing with highly-skilled execution, which kept the audience gripped.
Our final act was Ananya, who sang ‘Let it Go’ without backing music or the microphone. The judges thought her ability to fill the hall without amplification was very impressive.
Outcome
Overall, the show was a great success, raising over £120 for the charity ‘Thinking of Oscar’. All performers should be incredibly proud of themselves. They showed incredible courage in being able to perform in front of a full audience and putting on a great show for such a worthy cause.
The judges found it incredibly difficult to decide on their winner as each act had so many merits, so it ultimately came down to the audience’s vote. The winner was Cathy, who impressed all with her understated but highly skilled execution on the bass guitar.
