Cheery spirit and excitement has filled OHS this week – whether it’s excitement for a good lie in during the holidays or for everything that comes with the festivities. Here’s what we got up to during the last week of term…
The season kicked off with students attending the Oxford German Network Christmas Event, where Year 8s entered a baking competition called Weihnachtsplätzchenbackwettbewerb.
“Our German class, Year 8, was given the exciting opportunity to join a seasonal German baking competition. We presented our bakes and sat down to take part in decoration-making and quizzes. We were there with two other schools, Oxford Spires and Abingdon. We all tried our best to win this baking competition, some of us bringing in whole gingerbread houses! This was definitely an exciting event, and we all feel happy that we participated. OHS won Best Visuals!”

On the evening of Monday 12th January, we walked through what was left of the snow for a very festive carol service at St Andrew’s Church. As with every Music Department event, there were beautiful performances from our school choirs, soloists, and staff.
Everyone’s favourite school Christmas tradition kicked off on Tuesday morning: the Form Decorating Competition. Each Year 7 to 11 form room was decked out to fit their Christmas theme, from Christmas Films to Escape Rooms. The teams of judged had a hard time deciding which form would win, but ultimately 11O with ‘The Titanic Dining Room’ themed classroom took the prize.
Our School Christmas Lunch followed the decorating festivities, thanks to our wonderful catering team who prepared a lovely lunch and Sixth Formers who volunteered to serve.
Today, the last day of term, festive spirit wasn’t held back. Students and staff arrived at the gate with their best (and ugliest) Christmas Jumpers.
