Year 4 travelled to Dorchester Abbey, a visit linked to their topic on Anglo Saxons.
Girls learned all about life in this era and took part in some of the crafts themselves such as weaving and broach making, as well as helping to collect offerings for the Anglo Saxon Haerfest. During a role-play activity they dressed as Anglo Saxon characters, re-enacting the baptism of King Cynegil by Bishop Birinus.
“We made copper brooches which we coloured and stuck gems onto.”
“The story retelling about King Alfred the Great was fascinating.”
“Lucet weaving was really interesting, we used lamb’s wool to create a pattern.”
