World Book Day Celebrations at the Prep and Pre-Prep

13 March 2020

Each year we choose a theme for activities and our class competitions; this year it was a focus on graphic novels with the theme Superheroes and Comic Strip Characters!

At the Prep we celebrated over a very busy two days; on the 4th March authors Knife and Packer joined us and gave cartoon drawing workshops throughout the day.

On the 5th March, girls dressed as their favourite character from a book or took inspiration from this year’s theme.

They also took part in class activities and designed some brilliant comic strips and superheroes which were made into year group books and are available for the children to browse through in our Prep library.

We held a book ‘swap shop’.  Girls were encouraged to sort through their book collections at home for unwanted books to donate. These were collected together and they had the opportunity to visit the swap shop and choose a different book to take home.

In our World Book Day competition at the Prep they were challenged to design a Superhero Junk Model – some amazing designs came in.  These are the winning models from each class.

At the Pre-Prep there was also lots of wonderful costumes in celebration of characters from favourite stories.

The visiting author to Pre-Prep on the 5th was Mini Grey who inspired the children to unleash their ‘drawing’ super power.  She took them through a step by step activity in which they all managed to re-create Space Dog or Cosmic Cat!

All Pre-Prep children took part in the class ‘competition’ to create their own superhero.  A creative bunch of characters emerged.  All designs have been made into year group books and can be found in the Pre-Prep library.  These are the winning designs from each class.
