Year 4 and 5 were lucky enough to experience a virtual reality workshop. The Year 4s immersed themselves in aspects of the climb to the summit of Everest, without the cold and lack of oxygen!, while the Year 5s went back in time to The Stone Age.
“I enjoyed the beautiful sights. I remember that the summit was called dead zone. And I never knew that.”
“I felt surprised because it was literally virtual reality. I thought it was just like a picture, but it was really cool! It was also linked to global studies because of the prayer flags. It all linked in to all the lessons we were learning this term. Overall it was a very fun experience.”
“I enjoyed when we were at the top of Mount Everest. I learnt that the wind on Mount Everest is fifty miles per hour!”
“I really enjoyed the virtual reality workshop because it was just like actually being on the mountain. I learnt that most people die on the way down rather than on the way up.”
“I really enjoyed it because you could see very beautiful views that you might not see in real life – it was also a bit scary if you looked down! Mount Everest was first climbed in 1953 by Edmund Hilary; Hilary Bridge is named after him.”
“I really enjoyed the VR workshop because I have never been near Mount Everest, I remember one fact that 6000 people visit Mount Everest every year.”
