On Tuesday 29th November our GCSE and A Level Textiles students visited the V & A Museum in London. Whilst the Year 12s went off to research their own chosen area of study, the Year 10s admired the fashion collections from the 18th century to modern day.
The focus of the day was to draw and research – students sketched, took photographs, made notes in the galleries and chose outfits from the fashion, performance and jewellery areas that inspired them.
They saw outfits of fashion designers from Schiaparelli to Jean Paul Gaultier, and imagined what it would be like to design and wear them. In the ‘Re-imagining Musicals’ exhibition they drew costumes from famous musicals such as ‘The Lion King’, ‘Matilda’ and ‘Warhorse’, as well as recent ones like ‘Six’ and ‘Everybody’s Talking about Jamie’.
In the afternoon they visited ‘Africa Fashion,’ a new exhibition celebrating this dynamic and varied fashion scene, including exhibits from textiles, fashion, the visual arts and music.
In all, a busy, creative and inspirational day out!
