The Music Department has once again held the Suter Piano Festival, a celebration of pianism named in honour of the influential and much-loved OHS piano teacher, Kathryn Suter.
This year, the festival saw a massive surge in attendance compared with previous years, with over sixty girls performing. The morning saw an open performance space with a wonderful assortment of pieces from every era of music. The afternoon followed a masterclass format, led by guest artist Elizabeth Altman, concert pianist and director of the English Camerata Soloists’ summer Chamber Music course.
About twenty of the school’s most advanced players had the chance to benefit from her experience and expertise, as she helped them develop and refine their interpretations of their chosen music. We eagerly await the revelation of this year’s recipient of the Suter Cup for ‘most promising pianist’, and we look forward to hearing more from these performers in future OHS concerts.
