Sixth Form ERP Festival

15 October 2021

There was a buzz in the Ada Benson Building on Wednesday 13th as our Sixth Form students took part in a host of activities for the ERP Festival.

The Extended Research Project (ERP) provides an opportunity for our students to delve into a topic or subject of personal interest, freely exploring and researching areas that extend far beyond A Level.

Year 12 spent the day learning about the ERP. After taking part in workshops about research and plagiarism, they then eagerly discussed their research project ideas via in-depth one-to-ones with Dr Karapanagioti.

Year 13 presented the fruits of their labour as they showcased their ERP presentations to fellow students and teachers, followed by a Q & A session. As expected of our Sixth Formers, there was a real plethora of striking and thought-provoking topics. Some of the research questions put forward were:

  • How does the English language affect contemporary perceptions of the LGBTQ+ community in the UK?
  • To what extent has economic, health and social impacts of the Rohingya displacement affected relations between Myanmar and Bangladesh?
  • To what extent does the geometry of the universe affect the fate of the universe?
  • How has the character Mario visually evolved throughout Nintendo’s games?
  • To what extent does a mental health disorder impact how a person dreams?
  • Could immunotherapy provide a promising alternative to chemotherapy?

Many congratulations to our Year 13 for the hard-work and dedication that has clearly been put in to produce their fantastic presentations, and all the best of luck to our Year 12 who are embarking on the ERP journey!
