Week 1
25 children from our four of our local partner schools Botley School, Cutteslowe Primary School, St Nicholas Primary School and Wood Farm School came in to OHS for the first Serious Fun on Saturday session of 2016. Running until Easter, these are Saturday morning workshops for Year Five pupils to experience some exciting, innovative learning around Science, Maths, Drama, Sport and lots more. The pupils are accompanied by Sixth Form mentors from Oxford High and the sessions are led by the Oxford High teaching team. Happy New ‘SHINE’ Year!
Week 2 – Science
The second Serious Fun on Saturdays session tackled the well-known scientific question – can you fit the solar system into a sports hall? Our adventurous SHINE students threw themselves into measuring distances in space, in units and (of course) in the sports hall. Take a look at their efforts below!
Week 3 – Drama
Week 3 of SHINE saw the Drama dept. at OHS lead a series of energetic, imaginative workshops which saw (at times) Oscar-winning performances where our intrepid space explorers wrote and staged their own plays and adverts. An amazing array of both acting talent and … wigs … were on show. Brilliant fun!
Week 4 – Engineering
Look at these budding engineers as they measure, design and build in SHINE Serious Fun on Saturdays week 4 at Oxford High School, ably supported by our fantastic OHS Sixth Form leaders.
Week 5 – Creative writing
Week 5 of SHINE and our adventurous Serious Fun on Saturday students turn their attention to the stars and some wonderfully inventive writing. Thanks as ever to our OHS staff and Sixth Form leaders.
