During half term, my three friends and I participated in a Science Oxford STEM Insight Week event for a week. We had immersive experience into cutting – edge science, and did some independent research!
We were first greeted by a team of staff who work closely with the promotion of science. With them, we met researchers from 8 STEM based companies. During one lab visit to Samsara Therapeutics, I was lucky enough to get some hands on experience. I used university – level equipment to isolate cells growing in a petri dish and preparing them for observation under the microscope. It was a fantastic experience and it is absolutely unforgettable.
Everyone participating in STEM Insight Week also produced a presentation. There was a great variety, ranging from more sustainable alternatives to lithium battery, creating backgrounds in Minecraft, etc. I researched about treating mental health illnesses. I read lots of articles, and the support staff helped me all the way through! This is my first proper research project and I absolutely treasure it.It is such an extraordinary experience. I wish that next year I can still participate in it with my friends.
