Red Cross Ukraine Mufti Day

16 March 2022

Written by India and Michaela, Charity Prefects

By late February, like everyone, we were being bombarded by news of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Horrific images and consistent inhumane headlines flashing up was only the tipping point of our need to do something to help the amazingly resilient people of Ukraine. With an idea for mufti being raised by one of our fellow pupils, Izzy, we thought it would be a good idea to utilise the school’s past history of enthusiasm for mufti days.

Therefore, on the 7th of March, there was a mufti in aid of the emerging humanitarian needs in Ukraine. We decided to donate to the Red Cross Ukraine, as their efforts have been so evident and successful in the past. If they were comfortable, we encouraged students and staff to show their support by wearing blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag. Your donations will help to supply the essentials such as food and water, support the emergency services, help families stay in contact and rebuild their homes and provide vital healthcare for people affected.

It was amazing to see so many of you, students and staff alike, dressed in support of Ukraine and overall the school community raised £839.01. A big thank you also goes to Mr Hay for getting in early to help us set up the blue and yellow lights you saw around school, as well as Ms Nebesnuick and Ms Knowles for helping us to organise this event at such short notice, and Ms Mundy and the finance team.

Last of all, our thanks goes out to all of you for getting involved and contributing.
