Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome Professor Pawel Swietach, Professor of Physiology at the University of Oxford, to talk about his career path and all things scientific. The talk was aimed at those considering biomedical research and/or medicine. Years 10 and 12 were invited and were treated to a very honest account of what scientific research is really like.
Tia from Year 12 commented: “He emphasised that his job is unpredictable and no two days are the same. He even said that he searched through an old tumble dryer for parts required for an experiment!”
Sabrina from Year 10 is thinking of reading Medicine at university and “really liked it when he talked about the application process. I learnt a lot from that!”
Many commented on how interesting and engaging the talk was.
Professor Swietach has a daughter at the Prep School, so we hope to see him back at the Senior School soon.
