GCSE Results 2019: OHS Girls Shine On

22 August 2019

Once again, we find ourselves thrilled by the brilliance of OHS girls. On this occasion, it is because we are celebrating the academic excellence of our Year 11s, who have done phenomenally well in this year’s GCSEs, with 30% of students obtaining a string of top grades (9/8/A*) and 10% achieving a clean sweep of the very highest grades (9/A*). We are also proud to say that all the girls’ results are 9-4 (equivalent to A*-C).

Our students have achieved excellent results across the curriculum with notable successes in STEM subjects, the humanities, languages and creative arts. We are delighted that several students have achieved 100% in these subjects.

I am looking forward with keen anticipation to getting to know the students whose fearlessness, ambition and hard work have earned them such impressive results. Dr Helen Stringer

These results pay glowing testament to a year group who have always gone the extra mile, achieving not only excellent exam results, but also making lasting contributions to school life across everything from bee-keeping to zumba – at the same time demonstrating enormous leadership potential for the future.

Of these results, incoming Head Dr Helen Stringer commented that, ‘I am looking forward with keen anticipation to getting to know the students whose fearlessness, ambition and hard work have earned them such impressive results and also to working with the staff at OHS, through whose inspiration, expertise and dedication the students have been encouraged and enabled to excel.’

Head of Year 11, Jane Berry, echoed these sentiments, adding, ‘Such wonderful results testify to our long experience of knowing what girls need in order to excel in whatever field they choose, as well as our belief that the best results come when the girls are enjoying themselves and their learning journey. That’s the secret, ultimately.’
