The Feminist Society (FemSoc) at Oxford High School organised a fascinating series of talks featuring remarkable women who have made a significant mark on their fields.

To kick off our week-long celebration, we had the privilege of hosting Jo Goodall, the co-creator of the Luna Wellbeing App. Goodall shared her journey of developing an app dedicated to promoting mental health and self-care, emphasising the importance of prioritising wellness in our fast-paced world.
Dame Elizabeth Anionwu
We were inspired by Dame Elizabeth Anionwu’s remarkable career in nursing. From her humble beginnings as a school nurse assistant to her pioneering work with black and ethnic minority communities, Dame Elizabeth reflected on the highs and lows of her career from the 1970s to the present day.
Dame Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell
On Tuesday, we delved into the cosmos with Dame Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell, a pioneer in astrophysics renowned for her discovery of radio pulsars. In her captivating talk, “Pioneering Women in Astrophysics: Unveiling the Cosmic Mysteries,” Dame Jocelyn shared her journey in a male-dominated field and inspired us with her passion for gender equality in STEM.
Kimberley Glassman
Kimberley Glassman, who shed light on the often overlooked women of Oxford’s Botanical Gardens. Her talk, “Bringing the Women of Oxford Gardens to Light,” highlighted the stories of remarkable women who played significant roles in shaping their communities and society as a whole.
Professor Jacqueline Rose
Wrapping up our week of empowering talks, we had the pleasure of hosting Professor Jacqueline Rose for an enriching conversation. Professor Rose, a distinguished scholar and feminist theorist, shared her insights on contemporary feminist issues and the importance of intersectionality in feminist discourse.
