On 2nd November, students were treated to a visit from the British Army Band Sandhurst, who came to give a workshop for the Lower School Orchestra and the Concert Band.
“During the workshop they taught us how to interpret and express music in ways we might not have thought about before, as well as giving us the opportunity to play some of their band music. We especially enjoyed playing “Resplendent Glory” as it was a style of music we hadn’t really experienced much of before. They also talked about life as an army musician and therefore gave us insight into another career option that could have previously been overlooked. We found the session really opened our eyes to a whole new world of music and careers!” Clara & Leo, Year 10
Later, the whole of Years 7 and 8 listened to a wonderful performance by the Army musicians who have had the opportunity to play at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and, most recently, performed during Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. The students were able to ask questions about the band’s career as professional musicians and learn about less familiar wind and brass instruments.
