In addition to the series of Perspectives talks that Year 13 have been able to attend over the past few weeks, we were joined by the wonderful Baroness Janet Royall, who gave an interesting talk on her career.
In such a dynamic period of our lives, the talks over the last few weeks have been awe-inspiring to listen to the passion that our speakers have for what they do, reassuring us that the best way to fulfil our lives is to follow our dreams (excuse the cliche).
Janet Royall did not let us down, quickly filling us in on the whirlwind of her career, starting in the Columbian florist industry to pursue her passion for language, followed by working in the European Parliament, in Tony Blair’s cabinet, for the House of Lords and now as Principal of Somerville College in Oxford University. Rest assured though, she confirmed that she won’t stop there!
Eager to hear our questions, the floor opened up to intriguing questioning from the students, ranging from her opinions on woman based networking to the importance of nationalism when working in Parliament.
