Kilve 2022

14 June 2022

Last Monday, our Year 7 students were brimming with nervous excitement as they headed off for an action-packed week at Kilve, an activity centre on the Somerset coast.

A long-standing tradition that students remember for the rest of their time at OHS and beyond, this annual residential trip provides a great opportunity to develop new skills, overcome fears, work as a team and form new friendships.

With a broad range of outdoor pursuits on offer, many students inevitably discovered a new favourite activity! Over the course of the week, they had the opportunity to try paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking, climbing, mountain boarding, mountain biking, high ropes, beach games, shelter building, and abseiling.

Amid all of the high-adrenaline physical activities, students were also able to take part in a sand castle building competition, as well as enjoying a relaxed beach study afternoon which involved hunting for fossils followed by surprise ice creams.

We spoke to Dalia in Year 7 to find out more about her time at Kilve –

“Our trip to Kilve was fun! My favourite activities were paddle boarding and abseiling. But kayaking, mountain boarding, mountain biking and crate stacking were great fun, too. We all had a laugh whether we were tired or not.

There were plenty of funny moments; I fell into a huge puddle and also abseiled into a nettle bush. Luckily, I was wearing leggings! It was so funny – we will remember it all our lives.”

Another fantastic Kilve trip complete! Well done to all of our Year 7s for their enthusiasm and sense of adventure, and thank you to all of the staff who were involved. We can’t wait for next year already!
