Perspectives Talks with Lou Everatt, John Berry and Hibah Rizvi

4 February 2022

Over the last two weeks, our Year 13 students have enjoyed two law-related Perspectives sessions, both of which offered thought-provoking insights into our legal systems and what careers in this discipline can look like.

Talk with John Berry and Hibah Rizvi

The life of a criminal solicitor is never dull, and Year 13 certainly found a talk by two local solicitors fascinating. John Berry and Hibah Rizvi outlined the various paths to becoming a solicitor, and the ups and downs of working within the world of crime and our legal system. They gave personal accounts of a typical day but also some practical advice about how to manage tricky situations and the importance of us all knowing our legal rights.

Talk with Lou Everatt

On 3rd February, we were delighted to welcome Lou Everatt, Head of Oxfordshire Probation Services, to speak to our Year 13 about the invaluable part that probation plays in our criminal justice system and the impact their work has on reoffending rates in the UK.

Bea, who is hoping to study Criminology at University, commented:

“The talk by Lou was incredibly interesting….and gave a really good insight into possible careers post-university.”
