The Sheldonian Concert traditionally marks the coming of Spring and the moment when we bid farewell to our senior musicians before study leave. Undeterred by the concert’s cancellation due to coronavirus, Dr Foster resolved to move the performance online, to create a record of all the hard work the girls have put in and a fitting tribute to our senior musicians.
And so it was that, on Thursday 19th March, the Sheldonian concert was held virtually in full concert attire and featuring the school’s new Steinway B Concert Piano (which sounds magnificent!) in the Music Hall. Thanks to the technological wizardry of our Theatre Director, Mr Hay, we were able to create a record of this amazing day for posterity, the first excerpt of which you can see below.

The Programme
After a morning devoted to percussion, choir and concert band, the afternoon programme featured Movement 1 from the Eroica Symphony, conducted by Dr Foster, followed by Jess Saunders on oboe leading Albinoni’s Concerto in D minor, mvts 1 and 2. To conclude the day. we heard Fauré’s Élégie in C minor, with Georgie West on cello, accompanied beautifully by the Senior Choir.
These latter were bravura performances by their soloists, and served as a fitting tribute to the quality of playing these girls have developed and shared with others, for enjoyment and inspiration, during their time at OHS.
But we must also congratulate the other players and performers from throughout the school, who gave up their time so selflessly to support these girls in capturing a fitting moment with which to celebrate their love of music and of performing with the school.
