Year 4 visited Dorchester Abbey to study the Anglo Saxons as part of their history topic on Kings and Queens. Anglo Saxon artefacts have been found in Dorchester and its environs and the abbey is a tremendous historical and educational resource. We were very fortunate to be able to spend a day there, exploring, sketching and learning. Various workshops included Lucet weaving and spindle making, as well as investigating Anglo Saxon burial rites and pagan gods, which all added to the project’s authenticity.
