Year 10 Italian Students Receive First Letters from Pozzuoli Penfriends

30 April 2025

Our Year 10 Italian students were thrilled to receive their first handwritten replies from students at the Liceo Ettore Majorana in Pozzuoli, a town just outside Naples. The letters arrived by post last week, bringing a wonderful sense of excitement and curiosity to the classroom.

Before the Easter break, our students wrote their first letters in Italian, introducing themselves and sharing details about their families, school life, hobbies and daily routines. The letters they received in return – written in English by their Italian penfriends – were thoughtful and enthusiastic responses to those original messages.

This international exchange is part of our Italian penfriend project, which aims to give students a more personal and authentic way to engage with language learning. Reading the replies gave our students the chance to reflect on how effectively they communicated in Italian, and they thoroughly enjoyed learning more about life in a different part of the world.

They will soon be busy preparing their next set of letters, which will once again be written in Italian and sent off to Italy soon.
