The A level scripted pieces were performed on the evening of Monday 10th February, before our visiting A Level examiners. The culmination of vast amounts of work and energy, the evening was both nerve-wracking and a wonderful celebration of how far these actors have come.
On the night, Clara took a monologue from Lungs by Duncan McMillan, playing a young woman re-examining her gut-wrenching relationship and recent miscarriage under the theme of climate change and carbon footprints. Ellie took Andromache’s speech from The Women of Troy, having heard that her baby son, Astyanax, has been condemned to die. The monologues were followed by a performance of Ash Girl by Timberlake Wertenbaker. The students were joined by Africa from 80, who generously shared her dramatic chops for the evening. All three students used Berkoffian influences in this piece and greatly pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, to produce a wonderful finale of impressive acting ability and great promise for the future.
