Winner of the ‘Independent Girls’ School of the Year’ at Independent Schools of the Year awards

Head, Marina Gardiner Legge accepted the award at a ceremony in London, recognising the school’s “amazing pupils, whose voices guide us every day”.

12th October, 2023: In the latest piece of recognition in a year of stellar exam results and excellent inspection outcomes, we were named ‘Independent Girls’ School of the Year’ at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards, run by the Telegraph Media Group.

The awards were established to highlight the excellence of the student experience that the UK’s independent schools provide and Oxford High School proved no exception, with an entry showcasing the way in which the school takes efforts to ensure that “every student is inspired to break through their own perceived limits and thrive at all levels; to have the spirit and courage to say yes to opportunities, to fail with grace and rise with tenacity”.

A highlight was the enhanced entrepreneurial and enterprise opportunities available to students at every age of the senior school, culminating in a group of Year 12 students securing a place in the Conrad Challenge Finals in Houston, Texas and the school’s UK Young Enterprise team reaching the Regional finals – while tracking sales in 20 countries.

Our education encourages girls to see themselves reflected in the role models they learn about and provides the opportunity to envisage a future for themselves, solving real-world problems with their curiosity. As the ISI Inspectors noted, “the school is highly successful in nurturing pupils’ individual strengths and academic potential…the pupils’ determination to contribute to school life is outstanding; there is a tangible culture of engagement and a commitment to doing something which will have an impact on the school community.”

Marina Gardiner Legge, Head of Oxford High School GDST and President of the Girls’ School Association said, “This is fantastic recognition of the quality of the education we provide and consistency of pastoral support, throughout the school. I’m absolutely thrilled for everyone in the Oxford High School community and of course our amazing pupils, whose voices guide us every day.”
