The OHS senior footballers are once again storming up through the ranks in the ISFA U19 Girls’ Cup, with a resounding 6-0 victory against Malvern College securing them a place in the quarter-finals.
Their last game of the group stage against Malvern College was a watershed moment for the team, with OHS dominating from the first whistle. The first goal of the game resulted from a twelve-pass move direct from kick-off, which had Mr Gilbert whooping from the sidelines. Following this confident start, OHS remained firmly in control throughout.
Mr Gilbert described it as the team’s most complete performance of the season, both in and out of possession, with five different goal scorers showing how strong the team is as a collective. The back half received a confidence boost shot in the arm having kept a clean sheet, and Georgia Brown – who was recently selected for the Scottish national side – scored twice.
Looking forward, OHS now wait to see who they will face in the Quarter Final. According to ISFA guidelines, we should get a home draw against the second place team in one of the other groups, which will give us a slight advantage. But with team dynamics as strong as these, we may not need the edge. Certainly, we have everything to play for, with a real shot of surpassing our excellent semi-final finish last year.
Finally, the game fell on the day that three of our team-members found out their new Head Girl team positions, with Eleni appointed Head Girl, Beth appointed Deputy Head Girl and Olivia nominated as GDST Student Council. Extra-special congratulations to those girls!
