It has been a busy month in the Drama Department’s calendar. We were immersed in the Addam’s Family Musical and their fantastic performances, then the spotlight turned to the Year 11 GCSE Drama students, who concluded their devised pieces.
Addams Family
In November, we witnessed a spellbinding showcase of OHS talent as the Upper School presented their much-anticipated musical – The Addams Family. Under the direction of our passionate Drama department, the cast embarked on a journey of fantastically rehearsed acting, singing and choreography.
Behind the scenes, the set design concept and creation was extraordinary. The intricate details of the Addams Family mansion, complete with its eerie charm, transported the audience into the whimsical world of Gomez, Morticia, and the rest of the Addams Family. The technical crew also played a pivotal role in the production, executing the lighting and sound precisely, taking the production to the next level.
GCSE Drama Devised Piece
Our Year 11 GCSE Drama students brought their term-long exploration of devised theatre to a conclusion with five very different short plays drawn from ideas found in the folk tale ‘The Goat Girl’.
These performances were the product of research, writing collaboration and rehearsal workshops. These self-directed pieces – with subjects and topics ranging from misogyny in the media, the imbalance of power in politics, friendship, the crushing effects of social media and the suffragette movement – were performed with power and confidence.
