The newly energised U13 football team last weekend competed in the Regional phase of the EFL Cup. There they did brilliantly to come fifth overall, narrowly missing selection for the Semi-Finals.
On the day, they faced a very strong field, including teams from Cheltenham Town, Reading, Crawley Town, Portsmouth, MK Dons, Northampton Town and Swindon Town. In these seven matches, the girls won two (Portsmouth and Crawley), drew three (Reading, MK Dons and Northampton) and lost two (Swindon and eventual winners Cheltenham). Unfortunately, the final tally of goals meant the girls narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals through goal difference, but they should nonetheless feel very proud of finishing in a very respectable fifth place.
On the day, goals were scored by Sara-Lynn Culpepper, Lucille Heard and Katherine Arneil. Congratulations, also, to goalkeeper Layla Parker on keeping a clean five clean sheets, as well as the other team members Izzy Martin, Lucy Trinder, Cecilly Wellesley-Smith and Izzy Maynard for their great play on the day.
