On Monday 17th October, a team of students staged their own drama production, written and directed by Poppy in Year 11.
The Gloomy Day explores the life of Leo, a boy who fled from the Russian revolution, leaving his family and home behind. The play charts the hopes, dreams, and growth of Leo as a refugee, while navigating his teenagehood. Through exploration of Pieter Bruegel’s painting The Gloomy Day and a friendship with a visitor from Leo’s future, he learns how to come to terms with the past and move forward.
The production was a sell-out, proving successful for the students who acted, produced, and directed the play with support and advice from the OHS’s Drama Department.
