It’s been a season to remember for the Oxford High School U14 tennis team, who are celebrating an extraordinary double victory after being crowned champions of both the School Sport Magazine U14 National Tennis Cup and the GDST Tennis Rally – for the first time in the school’s history.
In searing heat at Clifton College, Bristol, on the hottest day of the year, the U14 squad delivered a dominant performance to defeat Putney High School 6-0 in the final of the School Sport Magazine National Schools Cup. The result marked the end of a near-perfect campaign in which the team dropped just one match on their journey to the national title.
Their path to glory saw them beat Bloxham School, both the A and B teams from St Helen and St Katharine School, as well as Farnborough Hill and Canford. A semi-final walkover saw our team progress directly to the final, where they swept aside their London rivals with composure and class.
The winning team – Maria Clara, Sofia, Aneesa, Claire and Mimi – showed unwavering focus and strength throughout the day. Their teamwork, resilience and sheer joy on court were a perfect reflection of the values at the heart of sport at Oxford High.
To add to the celebrations, the team also triumphed at the GDST Tennis Rally earlier in the season, marking the school’s first-ever win at the much-loved tournament that brings together schools from across the Girls’ Day School Trust.
These historic wins are a testament not just to the players’ dedication and talent, but also to the thriving culture of girls’ sport at Oxford High. A huge congratulations to the team and all those who have supported them – a golden summer for OHS tennis, and the beginning of a very bright future.
