On Sunday 8th June, four intrepid members of the OHS community took on the challenge of the Blenheim Triathlon in support of this year’s chosen Year 9 charity, Thinking of Oscar.
The team swapped their usual Sunday routines for wetsuits, bikes and running shoes, all in the name of raising funds and awareness. The staff relay team of Mr Dighton (swim), Mr Pelling (bike) and Ms Clarke (run) came an impressive 2nd out of 31 teams racing and were the 4th fastest team overall across the entire weekend. Equally impressive was Mrs Sheppard, who completed the full triathlon solo for the first time—showing true OHS spirit by even pausing mid-race to help a fellow competitor with a dropped bike chain.
Thinking of Oscar was founded by the family of an OHS pupil, and its mission is to “Bring the Future of Healthcare to Children” by supporting and funding innovative projects that improve the experiences of children receiving medical care.
Mr Pelling said, “We’re proud to support ‘Thinking of Oscar’, a charity that does wonderful work for children in hospital and is so closely connected to the school through one of our pupils.”
Mrs Sheppard added, “Engaging in Social Action in the local community is a very important part of being an OHS student, and supporting a local charity like ‘Thinking of Oscar’ is just one of the ways we encourage this. It’s great for students to see staff getting directly involved.”
We are incredibly proud of the staff team for completing the triathlon and grateful to everyone who has supported their efforts so far.
