Written by Esther and Maddie (Year 11)
On Wednesday the 30th of March, we in 11X hosted a ‘Sponge the Teacher’ charity event on the netball courts.
We felt it was really important to get the whole school community (especially teachers!) involved in fundraising for a great cause. We think it was a lighthearted event and a great way to have some fun before the end of term! We’re really grateful for the teachers who acted as human target practice, especially since it was such a cold day. It just goes to show that when OHS comes together we can truly achieve anything! In total we managed to raise nearly £150 and we know that all of the money raised will go towards helping young vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community.
We chose the charity akt because we felt it was extremely important to support the LGBTQ+ community, particularly younger members of the community who are faced with problems such as homelessness. We also felt it was important to support a smaller (though still national) charity doing valuable work, so our contribution and its impact would be more meaningful.
We want to thank everyone who took part and donated, and a special thanks again to Mrs Gardiner Legge and the other teachers who took part!
