Our Library plays an important role in enriching each girl’s learning experience.  We really encourage a desire to read for pleasure and Frances, our Librarian, runs many activities for keen readers including book clubs, quizzes and competitions. She plays a vital role in nurturing the girls’ inquisitive side by establishing good reading habits and challenging them to tackle new and different genres to widen their choices.

The Library itself is a welcoming, light and airy contemporary space where all girls can learn the necessary research skills to lay foundation blocks for future academic study. They can also sink into a squashy armchair on a wet day and simply lose themselves in a good book.

A large non-fiction collection is supplemented with subject journals and foreign language magazines, helping to support extended reading and complemented by our on-line library subscriptions.

The upper mezzanine floor houses a dedicated Sixth Form study space supported by a bank of wifi enabled laptops and older reader fiction, with the lower floor providing the main library and a further suite of wifi enabled laptops.  This space is available throughout the day for private study and is also used for whole class research and library lessons.

The Heritage Library System enables girls to manage their own accounts and training in the use of Heritage is provided in Year 7 with regular refresher clinics available to update students throughout their school life.

The Library is very much at the heart of the Senior School site and offers many opportunities for girls to be involved throughout the school year from Pupil Librarians, Book Club, Author Events, World Book Day, National and Regional Quiz teams, Reading Incentives to National and local Book Award Shadowing.
