Last week, the whole school community were treated to an amazing performance of Sister Act by our upper school drama team. The three evenings saw our actors and stage crew deliver a spectacular show to packed audiences. We welcomed parents, pupils, alumni and friends to our Stephanie North Hall for the musical production.
Many of us are familiar with the hugely successful movie starring Whoopie Goldberg. The stage story remains the same, Dolores and her team of Nuns, their antics on the run and success as a choral choir. However, the musical score by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glen Slater is different from the movie, and provides spectacular ensemble numbers as well as some brilliant individual songs for the key characters. Our Director of Drama, Ms Julie Bramall provided this feedback on the production:
“It has been a joy to see the students working together across the year groups and it’s difficult to believe that the production has been created in only 10 weeks. To say that everyone is ‘fabulous’ would be an understatement. I am left staggered and in awe of the students’ intellect, quick-witted joy, and camaraderie. For some, they are taking part in an Oxford High School show for the first time, for others it is their last school production. We hope they have all created memories to last a lifetime.”
Music is at the heart of this show and our talented school musicians were positioned centre front in a traditional orchestra pit. Dr Peter Foster, our Head of Music wrote:
“The energy and hard work of the cast, crew and band has been immensely impressive. There has been a real emotional investment in making this show a success, as well as a large investment of time. The experience of doing a show like this will remain with these young people throughout their lives.”
A heartfelt thanks to all the staff, crew and supporters of the production and most especially to the cast and musicians for their incredible performances.
