Over two days, Year 3 girls joined with children from the Dragon Pre-Prep, St Andrew’s, St Joseph’s, St Barnabas and St Ebbe’s schools for a festival of singing. It was a great chance for the children to make new friends and to celebrate singing together. We worked on a huge variety of songs this term, then came together on the day to be co-led by singing leaders from OHS and the Dragon in rehearsals, before performing to parents at the end of each day.
We were transported from Ancient Greece to an American ranch via a fairground and were impressed with their ability to sing the Greek alphabet and hold several parts against each other! The children worked hard and sang beautifully throughout the day and we were delighted to hear parents singing the supporting ostinatos alongside them. As this event has been so popular for the 10 years it has been running, for the first time we held 2 singing days, to open the opportunity to more schools. We are very grateful to the Dragon School for hosting the first day. The children benefit hugely from these large scale singing events, which cover so many curriculum areas as well as boosting their confidence and self-esteem. We are already planning the next one!
