Senior Concert – Autumn 2021

11 November 2021

Last night, the OHS community came together to enjoy this term’s much-anticipated Senior Concert. Held at the beautiful St. Barnabas Church in Jericho, the concert showcased our recently re-started senior ensembles, which have returned stronger than ever following the eighteen-month interruption brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As ever, our students rose to the challenge of preparing an exceptional programme in a short space of time and last night their hard work came to fruition. Featuring our String Orchestra, The Sevenths, Sixth Form Composition Group, Senior Choir, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Bonae Quartet and Senior Orchestra, the concert included an inspiring selection of performances which succeeded in delighting and surprising a rather captive audience.

From the traditional to the modern, melancholic to the upbeat, there was a wonderful variety of pieces and composers represented. Attendees were treated to, amongst others, Mozart’s ‘Divertimento in D K. 186’, Deleruyelle’s ‘Mexicana’ and Aaron Copland’s ‘Hoe-Down’ (from Rodeo). We also saw performances of songs from Happy Feet, Six the Musical and Les Miserables, as well as an original composition from our very own Susannah (Year 13)!

Thank you to everyone who was involved in the organisation and running of the event, including our Head of Music Dr Foster and his team, our fantastic performers, and all of the attendees. Thanks also go to the vicar and churchwardens at St. Barnabas Church for kindly hosting us.

An thoroughly enjoyable evening – well done everyone!
