Five Year 10 girls have this term wowed their peers, teachers and families by triumphing over 600 rival teams across the world to earn a place in the highly competitive final of the Conrad Challenge.
The Conard Challenge is an annual innovation and entrepreneurship competition run in collaboration with NASA, which encourages young adults to participate in designing the future. Teams of 2-5 students, aged 13-18, are tasked with creating products and/or services to address some of the most pressing global and local challenges, using not merely scientific knowledge but also entrepreneurial, sociological and critical-thinking skills.
Annabelle, Sophia, Lucy, Eleanor and Olivia, who together comprise Team Astronyx, will compete in the Aviation and Aerospace final with their product Astratum, a magnetised and heated mattress and blanket system designed to reduce the muscular atrophy and vision impairment affecting astronauts in microgravity. Best of all? The Innovation Summit in which the girls will compete for the top prize is taking place at Nasa’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida! We know the girls will deliver a truly stellar performance once they get there!
