Swim Squad 2019-2020
It was lovely to see so many girls take part in the Swim Squad trials in September. 8 girls each from years 4, 5 and 6 have been chosen, primarily based on times, to form the initial squad. All of our swimming Galas will be very competitive and we want to make sure that we have a strong, confident and prepared team. We have begun our training and all members are working very hard in and out of the water. We once again are doing some dry-side training prior to getting into the water, to ensure that out swimmers are as strong as possible. We are very lucky to have been joined this year by Mrs G Irvine, who is a qualified swimming coach and teacher in the senior school. She has been working with our Year 4 Swim Squad, girls and they are making great progress.
Development Squad – Once again this year, we are going to be running the Swim Development Squad, for those pupils that show real potential and are close to achieving the swim squad times. Four sessions have been planned to run before Christmas, with 15 pupils invited to attend.
Biathlon Training – For the first time, we have been able to offer pupils the chance to do some Biathlon training. The club has proven to be very popular and a great enhancement of Swim Squad. We have had some very impressive individual success in Biathlon, with Charlotte Campbell and Bianca Zanetti performing very well at the Abingdon Time Trial, finishing 2nd and 7th respectively, and gaining enough points to progress to the National Championships. Well done girls a truly fantastic result.
GDST Swim Rally at Northampton 15th October 2019 – The 8 girls selected had recorded the fastest times in training, in their particular stroke strength. We competed against 19 other schools within the GDST and we were delighted with how the girls performed. They proved themselves to be great team mates and competitive swimmers, who rose to the occasion. Iris Pittard placed 3rd in the 50m backstroke final, and our ‘A’ medley relay team, made up of Iris Pittard, Laura Ward, Cerys Obbink and Charlotte Campbell, qualified and came 4th in the final.
