The main point of entry to the Prep and Pre-Prep is via Reception, but we also offer pathways for students of different ages moving into the area or between other local schools. There is no formal assessment for entry to Reception. Registered girls are automatically offered a place subject to a Taster Day in the Summer Term of the year preceding entry. There are also a number of Welcome and Settling-In events offered to both parents and girls during this year.

Open Days

We hold Open Day and Meet the Head events throughout the year to enable prospective parents and their daughters to visit the school. Some Open Days are for the whole school and some are specific to Prep, Senior and Sixth Form entry. It is advisable to book in advance for these events, as places fill up fast. A tour of the school is included in all of these events. Find out more at our Open Days page.

Entry Process for Reception

You are advised to register your daughter at least one year prior to her entry date. Your daughter should have reached four years of age by the 1st September in which she will join Reception. Once registered, all place offers will be made in date order of registration, thus early registration is recommended. Please note, we do give priority at this age to siblings of girls who are already at the school.

Registration Form

Entry Process for Years 1 and 2

For entry to Year 1 or Year 2 classes, please contact the Admissions team in the year preceding entry to ensure places are available. Once availability is confirmed, you can visit the school during one of our Open Mornings or contact the Admissions Team to arrange an individual visit.

Registration and Assessment for Year 1 and Year 2 Entry

We recommend registering your daughter as early as possible in the year preceding entry. She will then be invited to an Admissions Day, of which there is one every month in Pre-Prep. On Admissions Day, applicants for Year 1 and 2 will spend the morning with the current Reception or Year 1 class undertaking some phonics and early numbers assessments in an informal setting whilst interacting with the current students and experiencing a typical school day.

Offers of places will be sent to parents within two weeks of the Admissions Day.

Entry Process for Years 3 and 5

Years 3 and 5 are the main entry points to our Prep School. We recommend registering your daughter as early as possible in the year preceding entry. Once registration is complete, you can attend one of our Open Mornings or arrange an individual visit. Once registered she will be invited to the next Admissions day which run once a month throughout the school year.

On Admissions Day, your daughter will spend a full day at the Prep School and will complete assessments in English, Maths and Reasoning via computer. She will also complete a reading task and a writing task and will have a short chat with the Head of the Prep School. Girls also spend some of the day with a ‘buddy’ showing them around and learning more about the school.

Offers of places will be sent to parents within two weeks of the Admissions Day.

Entry Process for Years 4 and 6

Parents wishing to start their daughter in Years 4 or 6 should contact the Admissions team in the year preceding entry to ensure that there are places available in the relevant year group. Once availability has been confirmed, the Admissions process repeats that of entry to Years 3 and 5.

Diagnostic Testing at Year 5

Parents of Year 5 girls who are considering entering Oxford High School at a later point, such as Year 7, are invited to attend one of our monthly Prep School Admissions Days for diagnostic testing. These tests will help parents to ascertain their daughter’s current ability and suitability for the School. Please contact the Admissions Team to check dates, availability and to register your daughter. There is a £50 charge for participation in the testing which can be offset against a future registration fee.

Settling in to your new school

We believe it is crucial to ensure girls settle quickly and happily into their new surroundings. We aim to send out all relevant information to new parents well in advance and, once your place has been confirmed as accepted, we will invite you to come along to age-appropriate events or concerts in school so you can meet your future classmates or fellow parents. Buddy systems, parent handbooks and ‘getting to know you’ events are all part of the warm welcome you will enjoy when you join Oxford High School!
