Year 3’s Play this year was based on the rather memorable eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Surprising that a mass volcano eruption could be reenacted on stage by some very talented 8-9 year olds but, given their excellent knowledge (with thanks to the tremendous works of Mrs Amrstrong, Mrs Classen and Mrs Andrews) it was quite the spectacle. The audience ‘erupted’ with applause (pun of Mrs A. Armstrong, Est 2025).
The play was a fitting end to this term’s topic ‘Extreme Earth’. In the Junior School, we’ve found the best way to understand a topic is to learn from all aspects. For example…
We studied Extreme Earth in:
Geography (looking at the structure of the Earth, different natural disasters – how and where they occur)
History (historical natural disasters)
Science (rocks and structure of the Earth)
English texts (Earth Shattering Events and Escape from Pompeii).
(Global Studies is a loose link as this term’s country was Italy…)
