PE & Sport Updates

26 May 2022

It has been a busy couple of weeks for the PE Department. The curriculum lessons have seen students participating in the Summer Term sports of athletics, cricket, rounders and tennis, and there has been plenty of sunshine to enjoy (most of the time!).

Our co-curricular programme has been full of activity with our tennis teams having played lots of matches, friendlies and LTA league matches, all meaning lots of time on the court for our students who love their tennis. Results have been mixed, but the performances have always been outstanding, with many matches decided by close tiebreakers. A huge well done to our tennis teams, and lots more to come after half term.

Our cricket teams have also been busy with lots of pairs cricket being played by our Year 7, 8 and 9, with some wins and some losses, but always so much fun had by all and some super cricket played. We have loved having such high numbers of students of cricket clubs this half term, and long may that continue. We really try to instill a sport-for-all approach at Oxford High, alongside our elite teams, and the cricket clubs and fixtures this half term have epitomised that. Our U18 cricket team are also through to the 3rd round of the 100 Ball Cup after beating Marlborough College, with a record breaking batting innings from Emma scoring 74 not out, and wickets taken by so many of our bowlers; Ellie, Lucy, Michaela, Emma, Millie and Izzy. We look forward to following their progress as the competition continues.

At the English Schools Athletics Cup, our junior athletics team finished 3rd and our inter team finished 5th. The first competition for many of our students for a number of years due to the Covid break, and some superb performances were put in. Our U15 football team travelled to Dulwich to play in the Sisters n Sport Cup where they won 5-2, with 4 goals from Lucy and one from Cecily, to advance to the quarter-finals. A long journey but well worth it!

Alongside the co-curricular sport we have been running our inter-house cricket and rounders competitions which have proved a huge success for all our year groups with students getting into the house spirit and loving the friendly competition. We are also really excited to have our first long haul sports tour confirmed and going to South Africa in July 2023 for our current Year 10-12 students. This is something we aim to continue running every few years, to give our students fantastic sporting and cultural experiences and opportunities across the globe.

Well done and thank you to all our students in PE lessons, co-curricular clubs, fixtures and tournaments.
