OHS Students win GDST Laurie Magnus Poetry Prize

We are excited to announce that two Oxford High School students won their respective categories in the GDST Laurie Magnus Poetry Prize, congratulations to Anjali K (year 8) and Beatrice L (year 10)! 

The poems were judged by Croydon High School alumna Georgina Day. With a background in English Literature and a lifelong love for reading, Georgina embarked on her professional writing journey in 2023 when she published her first book. In her debut children’s book ‘Honey and Sugar Get Adopted’, Georgina was able to combine being an author with her other strong passion for animal welfare. In her professional career Georgina holds a prominent position as an Associate Director of a large corporation, where she utilises her skills and leadership to drive successful transformation initiatives.

The winner of the Year 7, 8 & 9 category for her poem The Brooch is Anjali K. The judge through Anjali’s poem was ‘very well thought out; you can really get a sense of the emotional change and transition from the structure.’

And the winner of the Year 10 & 11 category for her poem “ ” is  Beatrice L. The judge cited this poem as a ‘stand out… technically interesting and original.’
