OHS’s success in the National Chinese Reading Competition continues as eight of our girls from Year 7 and 8 took part in the annual competition at University of Westminster in London. Jessica won the 1st prize in the Non-Native solo speaker category. reciting “Oh, Mother”, by the famous poet Ting Shu. With a mixture of accurate pronunciation and precise intonation combined with an emotive delivery and use of dramatic gestures, Jessica wowed the judges on her way to the highly coveted prize, and was asked to give another performance at the prize giving ceremony. Joint 3rd place successes were awarded to OHS for the two groups made up of Sara, Syinat, Diyana, May, Fiona and Ellen in the Non-Native groups category. Finally, an impressive performance by Tong in the native speaker category was commended.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and a big thank you to parents for accompanying the girls to the competition.
