Miranda Wins ‘Immerse Education’ Scholarship

2 October 2020

We are pleased to announce that Miranda, Year 13, having entered the Immerse Education Essay Competition, has won a scholarship to attend the Immerse Cambridge Summer School for a programme in her chosen topic.

With a broad choice of essay subjects available to entrants, the competition encourages students to focus on an area of personal interest, with the opportunity to win a scholarship where they can consolidate their own learning or explore a completely new area.

Miranda explains:

“For my essay on the biggest impact that chemistry has had over the last 100 years, I focused on the introduction and subsequent widespread use of synthetic textiles. I chose this topic as I found that the rapid incorporation of synthetic textiles has affected both the economy and consumer habits of the fashion industry, as well as marine ecosystems, with the discovery of microplastic pollution. To me, it was a perfect example of how chemistry impacts our everyday lives and society, with both positive and negative consequences.”

This is a phenomenal achievement and we would like to congratulate Miranda on her superb success and wish her all the very best for her university applications this year.
